![]() IL-2: Battle of Stalingrad started things off for the IL-2: Great Battles Series and the sim has steadily grown from that first title. A quick overview of the entire great battles series You'll have to wait a while for repairs to complete. One of the most common questions I see out in the flight sim communities when it comes to IL-2: Great Battles is a simple one: Which one should I buy? In this 2020 update of my experiences with each title and why I would recommend each one with my final recommendations at the end of the article (if you want to jump there). There is a status panel you can pull up that shows what parts are damaged. Shut your engine off and open the driver's hatch. Probably the most important feature to learn is how to heal your tank. For all crew positions, think of hatches as being aircraft canopies and visors being windows. The traverse lock command is also the lock tailwheel command for aircraft. The main gun also uses commands similar to operating a machine gun. The gunner is like the bombadier in that he has to know how to range targets in the gunsight. He can also "paint" targets for the gunner and way points for other tanks in the platoon which is a feature unique to Tank Crew. The commander is like a pilot: he can give commands by radio and he can control the direction of the tank. They share many of the same commands including changing crew positions, taking control of a gun, and operating a sight. This is an oversimplification but think of the tanks as being like the bombers. There are YouTube tutorials that will help. You essentially have to teach yourself by learning the key commands. There are station notes at each fighting compartment that will help but I don't remember the key command (Enter key maybe?) to bring them up. I don't know of any manuals - official or otherwise. ![]()
